BMW R1250 GSA

My last BMW was the F800 GS, a great bike that was maybe a bit more enduro focused than an all around adventure touring vehicle. I had longed dreamed of owning a 1250 GSA but feared it was just too big a bike, physically, not in terms of power. However, the F800, with its Enduro roots, was actually a taller bike than the GSA.

So, this past summer I made the leap, sold the 800 and bought a beautiful triple black R1250 GSA. This bike is nothing short of amazing. It is capable of going wherever I desire. For me, it is more of a road warrior with light trail duty, but I must admit, on each trip, I search out undeveloped camp lands that often require a few miles of dirt road to access. These camps spots often end up being a bit remote and simply spectacular places to visit.

One big advantage with the GSA is that it comes with just about everything one would need in a bike. All of those protective accessories are part of the package which makes the upfront cost a bit more but minimizes the need to add on accessories. Living in Maine for half the year, the only thing I opted to add of significance was a set of Clearwater Lights. I needed to be able to see farther down those back country roads as light fades early here in the spring and fall.

To say these lights are amazing is an understatement. They are bright; you will get flashed even on low but you can see and be seen. Two prerequisites for safe riding.

Luggage wise I added the tradition hard case for the pillion but went with Mosko Moto soft bags. I love the flexibility that these bags provide and can’t ever imagine going to traditional hard mount side cases. All of the Mosko gear, including their line of clothing is simply spectacular.

My goal had always been to transition to more long distance motorcycle trips and shorter distant human power trips and my age increased. I can say that so far, this has been a very good decision and this is by far, the best all around motorcycle I have ever owned.

Another gear article coming to discuss some of my gear choices like clothing, airbag, gloves and helmet

Peace,
